If I capture a squirrel and try to pick it up and pet it, will it bite me?
Is it possible to have a squirrel as a pet, like the ones you see in your backyard? Will they bite if you try to pet them or pick them up?
That’s a good one. ya they bite and really hurts too. i had the same idea when I was about 9 years old.
i worked washing cars and did things and bought wood and wire and a live trap and caught a big gray squirrel. I kept him in the cage and after school I collected nuts. and fed it eggs and stuff. Well I was reaching in to break a egg from it shell and this squirrel bit me. totally riped my skin and needless to say it hurt all the way up my wrist. Well one day it got out of it’s cage and I just let it stay loose in my room. it nested in my socks. Found the drawer holding the acorns and ate through it lol. it was so funny and in the morning it be on my bed by my feet lol. And sometimes late at night it let me pet it. i really loved that squirrel. Well i learned i needed a permit to keep it and wrote to the fish and game dept… They came over said i had 10 days to let it go. So i took him to my favorite spot in the woods in the live trap. And it hung around like wasn’t sure it should stay or go. and then ran up a tree and all happy again. I cried a little. but I knew it was best. They are pretty cool.
