How do I make my mares mane and tail soft and with out split ends?
Ok i know it sounds funny, but my mares mane and tail have split ends. And they are both really coarse. How can I make them soft and healthy? Your help is much appreciated!
Wash it every now and then with horse shampoo and conditioner – Make sure its all thoroughly washed out.
When you brush it, brush it with a human paddle hair brush or something similar – doesnt break the hairs.
Trim the very ends of the mane and tail about once a month, to help keep it in good condition, a bit like trimming your own hair.
I dont use mane and tail detangler, because most equine detangler products are silicone-based, and while they are very effective at promoting glossy, untangled manes and tails they have a dirty little secret: silicone will dry out your horse’s mane and tail out. In the long run the detangler will do more harm to your horse’s mane and tail than any amount of tangles and debris, so resist the urge to take the easy way out and dont use detangler.
When I bought my pony, he had been turned out for over a year and not groomed once…And when I got him home and groomed him, he had the most beautiful long, thick, healthy mane and tail, because it hadnt been touched. All the mane and tail proucts that are supposed to help your horses mane/tail/coat actually do more harm than good in the long run.
